A quick note:1/12/2002  My wife has often suggested I tell my story and I have always argued it is of now interest. Perhaps I’m wrong. So here goes with a straightforward account.

I was born   in Hales, Norfolk…..(Former start)

Here, I shall post, amongst other texts I want to share,  book notices, rather than evaluative reviews.

Sorting through my archives located in the cellar, I have come across many notes in books of all sizes that I wrote as a student at St. John’s College, Cambridg,  studying History, and, later, at the University of Leeds, studying for the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign language.

Over the years, I also wrote notes in books of all sizes attending conferences on TEFL in a number of countries. There are notes on seminars I gave, especially during my 35 years in the English Department of the University of Osnabrück in North Germany, and some travel notes of journeys I took, mostly by car, and chiefly to England, Wales, Holland and Germany – togh there wwere others suc as to Kosov, Saraajevo, Timbukzu, The Soviet Union, Russia – and others..

There are also diaries, but I doubt if many extracts from those are likely to be worth quoting here.

: I shall only write about books I recommend, and they will  be focused on telling the potential reader about the contents of the book and the principles and pedagogical assumptions, in so far as they can be determined, of the author.

This blog is one brick in a linked ediface that will amount to a kind of autobiography, though it will be more of a presentation than a usual autobiography. And it will be multi-medial.

For those of you who are interested in a few details about me, you can go here. The website needs updating, but it is online and means I have no need to re-write  my curriculum vitae.

My old-fashioned website

4th. November 2022.  These entries are becomnh holding notes until I’ve mastered how my blog functions, where I must go to to type my daiy imput.Want to wrte a but more on  Dickens but then want to break off and say a  myriad other matters I want to deal with /then a picture or a recording/ and at some other point in time can return to Dickens mand the reaqding of literaature – as one always doesw.  I’ve  always been clear enough why I read, fiction and poetr especially, but, of course, note a change of perspetive at 87. Do want to deepen, cotinue my insights. How much lonager are they going to useful. Perhaps the answer is useful up to the last moment,,,,,Dickens would have run a great evening course on: Techiques of writing. How to get and keeep the reader’s attentkon.   Note his se of informative, summariusing chapter titles, for example….in passing, with a few scs show the glorious little   eric by shaun tan follow up with a couple of recordings, Jana and I Sekunda Volta and, say, interview, BBC with Collier, and then worlk on diasribution list. So, wat is today’stake on where I should srat? Well here is someone whogoes ludila straight to the point:  “There is a lot of talk about universities these days, not least because there are now a lotof universities to talk abouj,”  Speakong of Univesities Stefan Collini,Verso 2017
